Bye bye parents

Moving InOSU freshman, Andrew Pottinger, stuffs his clothes in a drawer in his new dorm room on Friday.

Again, today, I had the privilege of shooting an assignment for the Tulsa World. The story was a broad feature about students moving into their dorms and parents having to say goodbye. The goal, I think, was to find some poor, sobbing mother that just couldn’t imagine how life would go on with their ‘baby’ growing up and moving off.

That’s not what we found. I’m fine with that. The family that we happened upon was friendly and gracious. They were from Dallas and were happy the whole time they unpacked. It was exactly what the process should be, in my opinion.

The writer for the story was the World’s higher education reporter, Shannon Muchmore. I didn’t know it until I met her, but Shannon was an ’07 graduate from OSU and was even the editor-in-chief of the O’Colly.

It was fun talking about the changes made to the O’Colly since she has been gone and our only other commonality – Bob.

Here’s the link to the story. They ran four photos from the day, so that was nice to see. None of which was the one above.
